British schoolchildren grow Garvinea®

In close cooperation with the British Gardening Guru Peter Seabrook, Florist De Kwakel – the Gerbera breeding company from the Netherlands – has started a school project in the United Kingdom. Children from 12 schools across the country will work hard, as real growers, to grow the most beautiful garden Gerbera for the Chelsea Flower Show 2011.

Gerberas in all shapes and sizes
Florist De Kwakel is specialized in Gerbera breeding and has achieved exceptional results on product innovation over the last few decades. This has resulted in four appearances of the Gerbera: the well-known cut flowers, Flori Line® pot plants, Patio Gerberas and the garden plant series Garvinea ®. After an exciting kick-off meeting, the students actively started working with Garvinea®. Florist De Kwakel has supported the children with a detailed curriculum, consisting of young plants, classroom posters, cultivation manuals and growing diaries to be able to capture the growth of the plants.
The progress of the children will be featured on the Facebook page of Garvinea® - 3 seasons of flowers. Besides participating in the educational project, the children growing the Garvinea® plants provide long-term colour in the British school gardens: Garvinea® produces an ocean of flowers during 3 long seasons.

Chelsea Flower Show
At the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (May 24 to 28, 2011 - Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London), the four groups of Gerberas of Florist will be highlighted in the "Grow your Own" presentation of Peter Seabrook. The British schoolchildren participating in the Garvinea® project will compete for the title of "Best Garvinea® Grower". The Chelsea Flower Show is known to be the garden event of the year in the United Kingdom and also this year it will be extensively brought to the attention by the BBC. Every year the event is visited by over 150.000 visitors. Traditionally also the members of the British Royal family will visit the event. The students eagerly look forward to the event and all hope that their plants will catch the eye of the British Queen Elizabeth.
