Growers cannot ignore good marketing

A series of pot-grown aromatic herbs and patio vegetables were introduced by GASA at IPM 2011. The plants have been branded with the name of Britain’s internationally famous TV celebrity-chef Jamie Oliver who receives a small fee per plant for the license to use his name and image.

The product series, “Grow Your Own”, includes a range of aromatic herbs and patio vegetables such as tomatoes, sweet peppers and chilli peppers. Seed from which to grow a variety of different flavours of cress and mushrooms are also included in the project.

Distribution will start with select outlets in Scandinavia, UK, Netherlands and German speaking countries and then some other European countries. Interest in the project has also been expressed by Australia and the USA. www.jamieoliver.com

The plant sleeves will carry Jamie Oliver’s name and picture, a QR code and simple recipes and cooking tips will be given The project aims to inspire more people, especially young people, to get involved in cooking and testing new flavours.
