René Redzepi of restaurant Noma gets his own Gerbera

René Redzepi, chef of the world’s best restaurant has baptised a brand new large-flowered Gerbera named after him, prior to his inspiring lecture on his book: ‘Noma – Time and Place in Nordic Cuisine’. In cooperation with Carsten Klint of Stichting Vakbekwaamheid Horeca (SVH) and SVH Master chef Ron Blaauw, breeding and propagation company Florist Holland has selected a special passion-red Gerbera, in honour of the famous Danish chef.

First copy of book
At the invitation of Kosmos Uitgevers, Redzepi gave a presentation on Thursday 22 September 2011 in the Thamerkerk in Uithoorn for the Dutch press and several chefs. Prior to his presentation there was an exclusive meeting for invited guests at two-star restaurant Ron Blaauw Amsterdam. During this special lunch in Amsterdam, arranged by SVH Masterchef Ron Blaauw himself, Redzepi honoured SVH Master chef Jonnie Boer and SVH Wine master Thérèse Boer of three star restaurant De Librije in Zwolle with the first copy of the Dutch translation of his book. Then René Redzepi himself was surprised by Carsten Klint and Ron Blaauw with the flower naming.

Baptism of Gerbera René Redzepi
Export manager Sjaak Sijm of Florist Holland has offered the flowers with an accompanying certificate to Redzepi. According to tradition, the Gerbera was festively baptised by René Redzepi himself by pouring Champagne over the flower. Earlier this year Alain Ducasse was surprised with his own Gerbera, during his visit to the Netherlands on occasion of the recordings of the NRT program College Tour. Gerbera Alain Ducasse also comes from the nursery of breeder Florist Holland.

Florist Holland

Gerbera René Redzepi, a single-flowered red-coloured Gerbera with a black centre, is the result of four years of intensive breeding by Florist.
