Good start to Plantarium 2014

Boskoop, 27 August 2014

JanWillem Breukink, board member of INCOTEC® - a company of global renown within the seed industry and chairman of the board of Seed Valley - opened Plantarium 2014, the international trade fair for the tree nursery sector, on Wednesday morning.  Breukink truly walks his talk when it comes to connection and collaboration, which is why the organisation was delighted that he agreed to officially open Plantarium 2014.

Over 300 participants are offering trade visitors insights into the latest developments in the range and product marketing. Plantarium chairman Jan Willem Griep emphasised that the theme of Plantarium, Connect, has been interpreted in various ways at the fair. Examples include collaborations for optimising on-shelf displays and the pot manufacturer who supplies pots on a just-in-time basis. One could also mention solutions for extending the garden season right through into the autumn. A good practical example at Plantarium takes the form of the 20 mobile gardens which have been jointly developed by the growers, horticultural companies and sales outlets. Plantarium attracted plenty of international visitors on the first day.

Best new plant

Campsis 'Takarazuka Fresa' (SUMMER JAZZ FIRE) has been selected as the best new plant at Plantarium 2014. The plant was submitted by Hoogeveen Plants b.v. from Hazerswoude. According to the jury, the SUMMER JAZZ FIRE is a striking, compact plant which already flowers at a height of around 60 cm, which is unique within the Campsis range. The jury also praised the warm, orange-red flower colour and the healthy, dark-green leaves.

Best stand

The stand by Van Son & Koot BV from Kaatsheuvel was selected as the best Green stand at Plantarium 2014 by the jury of the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society. Designstar from Boskoop was awarded this title in the Suppliers category.

In the Concepts category, Plant‘n‘Relax® Bio Tube by Roses for Ever from Denmark won the Plantarium Press Award. Clematis ‘Maria Skłodowska Curie’ PBR by Clematis Container Nursery from Poland won this award in the Garden Plants category.
