 De Lier, January 14, 2015

Consolidation in the floricultural breeding sector advances further. DNA Green Group and Rijnplant – both with headquarters in De Lier, Netherlands – are announcing today that they have reached an agreement on the intended acquisition of Rijnplant by DNA Green Group. Rijnplant is specializing in the breeding, propagation and production of pot and cut anthurium, bougainvillea and heliconia. The company has a long and rich history under the leadership of multiple generations of the entrepreneurial Van Rijn family. Aad van der Lem, Managing Director of Rijnplant is enthusiastic about the agreement. “Rijnplant has successfully expanded its activities internationally; especially in growth markets like Asia and America. Our product and market proposition will get a stronger outlook with this step.”

Biense Visser, CEO of DNA Green Group, speaks of another great addition to the portfolio. “DNA Green Group takes yet another step towards the realization of its growth strategy. This is aimed at creating synergies in technology, production and sales. We are creating these synergies by consolidating breeding programs. The economies of scale, this creates, drives a further professionalization of the value chain in floriculture. The same development as we see in agricultural and vegetable crops.”

DNA Green Group is one of the leading companies in breeding and development of cut flowers, potted plants, bedding plants and perennials. DNA Green Group was the result of the merger between Dümmen Group and Agribio Group in 2013. The turnover in 2014 was €170 million. The company employs more than 6,000 people worldwide. Next to a large marketing and sales network, DNA Green Group also has a strong network of production locations. The key to the success of the company is a wide and deep product range that is supported by a global supply chain. The company embraces its social responsibility and invests in the health, safety and personal development of the employees.
